President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu said today that concerns raised about the government’s new taxi line service have been brought to his attention, including a corruption allegation circulating on social media regarding the Malé Taxi app. He said the President’s Office has instructed the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company and the Ministry of Transport to investigate the matter and take corrective action where necessary.
Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office, President Muizzu said the government is aware of complaints about the app’s performance and the allegation shared online. He said the administration will not tolerate misconduct in any state‑run service and will ensure that all concerns are examined properly.
“The President’s Office has instructed MTCC and the Ministry of Transport to look into this carefully and if there is anything wrong, attend to it immediately and take action,” he said.
The allegation, which spread on social media in recent days, claimed that the cost of developing the Malé Taxi app was higher than what is normally charged for similar work. No official agency has confirmed the claim, and authorities have not released details while the review is ongoing.
