MALE, — The Maldives Bureau of Statistics on Monday launched an interactive digital portal designed to give the public direct access to key economic and demographic indicators, including inflation rates, gross domestic product figures, and population projections.
The new platform, dubbed the “Data Explorer,” consolidates metrics such as the Consumer Price Index alongside national accounting data into a single interactive interface, replacing a traditionally fragmented release schedule.
The rollout coincided with the fifth anniversary of the Maldives Statistics Act, landmark legislation that formally established the bureau as a technically independent state body.
“The main purpose of this platform is to raise public awareness regarding the economic and demographic shifts taking place across the country,” the bureau said in a statement.
Under the statutory framework established by the 2021 law, the bureau operates under the administrative umbrella of the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises, while its operational leadership—the Chief Statistician—is appointed directly by the President. Finance ministry officials said the platform aims to improve transparency for researchers, businesses, and the public.
