Riding the waves of optimism fueled by a promising surge in global travel, the Maldives has unveiled an daring target of hosting 2.3 million tourists in this year. Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, outlined the nation’s optimistic projections, foreseeing a substantial increase from previous years.
“Building on current trends, we are setting our sights on an ambitious target of 2.3 million tourists,” declared Minister Faisal, underlining the strategic importance of the tourism sector in the nation’s economic landscape. This goal represents a significant leap from the previous target of 2 million tourists, indicating confidence in sustained momentum from key markets.
With a keen eye on pivotal source markets such as China and India, Minister Faisal expressed confidence in surpassing initial expectations. “Our immediate target, in collaboration with MMPRC, is 2 million,” he stated. “However, with sustained momentum from these key markets, I believe we can reach 2.3 million. That would be a remarkable stride.”
“The optimistic outlook is underpinned by an anticipated influx of tourists seeking the Maldives’ renowned natural beauty and hospitality. Minister Faisal’s projection aligns with the nation’s broader strategy to capitalize on the positive global travel trajectory and position the Maldives as a premier destination,” remarked Abdulla Nasheed, President of the National Hotels and Guesthouse Association of Maldives and proprietor of Kaani Hotels.
