MALÉ,  – President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed that the government has no immediate intentions to implement toll fees on the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge (Sinamalé Bridge), nor have any discussions taken place regarding tolls for the ongoing Thilamalé Bridge project.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, President Muizzu addressed public speculation regarding transit fees, clarifying that the economic burden on citizens rules out any such measures for the foreseeable future.

“The Sinamalé Bridge has remained entirely free to use since the day it opened,” the president noted, adding that introducing commuter fees during the current economic climate is not something the administration is considering.

Furthermore, the president explicitly extended this policy assurance to the Greater Malé Connectivity Project (the Thilamalé Bridge), which is currently under construction to link Malé with Villingili, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi. Despite the scale of the ongoing megaproject, Dr Muizzu reassured the public that introducing a toll fee system has not entered official bilateral or internal cabinet discussions.
