State Cuts Pay and Allowances for Permanent Secretaries and Council SGs

MALÉ — The National Pay Commission has ordered a reduction in salaries and allowances for ministry Permanent Secretaries and local council Secretary Generals, effective from next month, as part of a wider public sector wage adjustment.

According to a circular issued by the Civil Service Commission (CSC), the revisions extend beyond executive administration roles to encompass three specific job matrices within the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

Under the new pay structure, compensation for senior administrative posts has been restructured across designated ranks:

  • Permanent Secretaries (Rank 17): Basic salary set at 23,935 rufiyaa, supplemented by an executive allowance of 23,065 rufiyaa.

  • City Council Secretary Generals (Rank 17): Basic salary set at 23,935 rufiyaa, with an executive allowance of 23,065 rufiyaa.

  • Island Council Secretary Generals (Rank 16): Basic salary set at 18,000 rufiyaa, with an executive allowance of 6,620 rufiyaa.

  • Secretary Generals with Diploma and Experience (Rank 16): Basic salary set at 10,000 rufiyaa, alongside a 7,000 rufiyaa executive allowance.

Previously, Permanent Secretaries and City Council Secretary Generals took home total monthly packages of approximately 53,000 rufiyaa.

In addition to executive positions, the pay scale revisions apply to personnel across ICT operations and user support technician matrices, IT management matrices, and IT analyst roles. The adjustments will take effect starting next month.
