The government will construct a modern engineering and research building to train local engineers and expand higher education in technical fields, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced today.
Speaking in a video message to mark the Maldives’ first official Engineers Day, the President said the government plans to establish a high-end facility equipped with advanced laboratory resources to support local and international students.
“In the coming days, God willing, we intend to construct a state-of-the-art building equipped with top-tier laboratory facilities where studies and various types of research in engineering fields can be conducted,” President Muizzu said.
He noted that the facility will feature resources for students to conduct experiments and specialized research across several disciplines, including civil, mechanical, aircraft and aeronautical, robotics, AI, and digital engineering.
President Muizzu emphasized that the project will be structured to avoid placing a strain on the state budget.
“The government will carry out the necessary technical work and investment arrangements for this. We will do this sustainably, without overburdening the state budget,” he said.
He added that boosting training opportunities in these specialized areas would elevate the country’s engineering sector to international standards.
President Muizzu, who holds a doctorate in civil engineering, designated an official Engineers Day last year, with today marking its inaugural observance in the Maldives.
