Over MVR 58.8 billion is required to complete projects currently managed by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib informed the People’s Majlis on Monday.

The minister revealed the figure while responding to a question from South Hulhumalé MP Dr Ahmed Shamheed regarding the total estimated budget required to finish projects under the ministry’s purview and the allocation set aside for them in this year’s budget.

Replying on the Majlis floor, Dr Muththalib stated that completing all ongoing projects under the ministry would take an estimated MVR 58,831,473,267 (MVR 58.8 billion).

He explained that projects for 2026 are being managed under a program-based budget. Funding allocations are released by the Ministry of Finance based on project progress, meaning specific amounts were not individually earmarked for separate projects in the 2026 budget.

Speaking at the “Ahaa” public Q&A forum on Sunday night, Finance Minister noted that 1,273 signed projects are currently underway across the Maldives, with the government working to push all of them to completion.

A total of MVR 8.3 billion was set aside for Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP) projects in this year’s state budget, of which MVR 4.8 billion has been spent so far.
