President Dr Mohammed Muizzu and First Lady Sajida Mohamed will travel to Sri Lanka on Sunday for a state visit at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The delegation is scheduled to return to Malé on Wednesday.
According to the President’s Office, the visit from 3 to 6 May will include meetings with senior Sri Lankan officials and formal talks between the two leaders on strengthening cooperation. In the presence of both presidents, the two governments will exchange seven agreements covering areas identified by the two administrations.
The delegation includes the First Lady, several cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
President Muizzu will also meet Maldivians living in Sri Lanka, hold discussions with the Sri Lankan business community and take part in a business forum organised as part of the visit.
Chief Government Spokesperson Mohammed Hussain Shareef briefed the media today, describing the visit as part of the administration’s efforts to deepen ties with Colombo and expand opportunities for Maldivians in Sri Lanka. He said the President’s engagements would focus on practical cooperation and long‑term partnership.
Shareef also announced that he will begin communicating on TikTok and Instagram to broaden public outreach. Today’s press briefing was notably informal, with Shareef speaking candidly and at times advising reporters on how to frame their questions. Drawing on his long experience in government communications, he has so far been prompt in responding to media queries.
