President Muizzu Concludes Colombo Visit with Message of Gratitude and Commitment to Stronger Maldives–Sri Lanka Ties

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu ended his State Visit to Sri Lanka on Wednesday with a public message of thanks and a renewed call to deepen the long‑standing partnership between the two countries.

In a statement shared in Sinhala and English, the President said he was leaving Colombo with “renewed resolve” to strengthen the close relationship that has defined Maldives–Sri Lanka ties for decades. He expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Sri Lankan Government and people for the warm hospitality extended to him, the First Lady and the Maldivian delegation throughout the visit.

The President noted that his discussions with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya had been productive and wide‑ranging. He said the talks strengthened his confidence in the shared commitments of both governments and the potential for meaningful outcomes that benefit citizens of both nations.

The visit took place during a period of renewed cooperation, following the signing of several agreements aimed at expanding collaboration in areas such as trade, education, fisheries and defence.

In his closing message, the President said he looked forward to working with Sri Lanka to translate these commitments into practical progress, adding that the friendship between the two countries would continue to endure.
