The 22-year-old was high on drugs when he pulled a blade on a neighbor and tried to hide three knives in his bike seat, court documents show.
A local man went after a neighbor with a machete in Sh. Milandhoo late Sunday night after taking offense to a social media comment that called his wife “fat,” police and court records show.
The 22-year-old suspect marched over to the victim’s home with a machete in hand after the online spat boiled over.
According to witness statements detailed in the Milandhoo Magistrate Court remand order, the suspect didn’t just target the man who allegedly posted the comment. When a bystander tried to step in and calm things down, the 22-year-old raised the blade at him and warned him not to get involved.
When officers pulled up to the scene, the young man panicked and tried to hide the machete under his motorcycle seat. Police searched the bike on the spot and found the heavy blade alongside two other hidden knives.
At his court hearing on Monday, the suspect owned up to parts of the attack. He admitted to showing up at the scene, causing a scene by shouting, and confessed that he was high on drugs during the entire incident.
The Milandhoo Magistrate Court ordered the 22-year-old to be held in remand for 12 days while police wrap up their investigation.
Police initially arrested two men in connection with the incident—the attacker and the 31-year-old man who made the online comment about his wife. However, the court set the 31-year-old free after ruling there wasn’t enough evidence to keep him locked up. Both had originally been picked up on suspicion of attempted assault using a dangerous weapon.
