Male’, Maldives—The Maldives welcomed 806,110 tourists in 2025 through April 27, a 7.6% increase from the 749,225 arrivals in the same period last year, according to the Tourism Ministry. The figure also marks a significant rise from 666,842 visitors two years ago, underscoring the Maldives’ enduring appeal as a luxury travel destination.

Tourism spiked 19% on April 26 alone, with 173,692 visitors recorded this month. China led as the top source market, contributing 10% of arrivals with 87,731 tourists. The U.K. followed closely with 85,690 visitors, while India, a key regional market, placed sixth with 41,197 tourists.

Resorts captured the lion’s share of visitors, hosting 70% of arrivals, or 566,206 tourists, while guesthouses accommodated 195,066. The top 10 source markets also included Russia (82,833), Germany (62,346), France (30,995), the U.S. (25,869), Switzerland (19,641), and Poland (14,914).

After attracting two million tourists in 2024, the government projects 2.3 million arrivals this year, buoyed by robust demand for its pristine beaches and overwater villas. The tourism sector, a cornerstone of the nation’s economy, continues to drive growth despite global economic uncertainties.
