The People’s National Congress intensified its ground campaign today with door to door outreach across the Maafanu South constituency ahead of the local council and women’s development committee elections. President Mohammed Muizzu joined the effort, meeting residents and speaking with families in their homes.
In the afternoon, the President moved through several neighbourhoods in Maafanu West, where party teams were conducting similar visits. He asked residents about their living conditions and listened to concerns raised about daily challenges. People who met him on the street also stopped to share issues they wanted addressed. The President outlined parts of his administration’s vision and said he would work to resolve the matters brought to him.
In recent days, the President has also taken part in campaign activities across other parts of Malé, including neighbourhood walkabouts and candidate engagements highlighted by the PNC Secretariat. These included events linked to the mayoral campaign of Major General (retd) Moosa Ali Jaleel and wider mobilisation efforts in the capital ahead of the vote.
Major General (retd) Moosa Ali Jaleel, the PNC candidate for Mayor of Malé City, accompanied the President during today’s visits. Jaleel is a decorated soldier who served across key commands in the Maldives National Defence Force until his retirement, earning recognition for his long military career. Aishath Alaika Adnan, a young lawyer by profession and the party’s candidate for chair of the Women’s Development Committee for Malé, also took part in the outreach. Senior party leaders and state ministers joined the campaign teams throughout the afternoon.
The party has already secured a significant number of uncontested seats nationwide. According to party figures, PNC candidates have won 28 council seats and 41 women’s development committee seats without a vote, giving the party 69 positions ahead of polling.
