President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the second round of public meetings will begin next June, continuing what he described as a core part of his effort to stay directly connected with communities across the country. The announcement was made at a press briefing held at the President’s Office today.

The President said he intends to hold one meeting every week, subject to travel schedules and official commitments. He added that the aim is to maintain regular contact with citizens and ensure that concerns from different parts of the country reach him without delay.

Alongside the public meetings, the President plans to hold separate sessions with representatives from the tourism and fisheries sectors, as well as professionals from various fields. He also said he will continue visiting islands and villages to meet residents and assess conditions on the ground.

During the first round of public meetings, the President visited 187 islands and cities over the first year and 11 months of his administration. He held discussions on local challenges, inspected community facilities and followed up on development needs. Notably, he visited 63 islands twice during this period.

The President said the meetings were designed to ensure that the government’s work reflects the priorities of the people. He noted that some issues do not reach him through formal channels and that direct engagement has proven essential in resolving them.

Responding to a question on cost‑cutting measures in state‑owned enterprises, the President said companies will continue implementing the Public Enterprises Review Board’s directives. These include reducing staff numbers and restructuring operations to improve efficiency and streamline services.
