MALE,’  – President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the launch of a new, structured programme designed to facilitate direct, one-on-one meetings between himself and members of the public. The initiative aims to provide citizens with a formal platform to share their grievances, suggestions, and concerns directly with the head of state.

Speaking on the second episode of the state-run Nation Chat podcast, the President addressed the importance of accessibility, noting that while he has previously held various public meetings, this new programme would formalise the process of receiving individual delegations.

Under the new framework, the President plans to dedicate one or two days each week to these direct consultations. To ensure the process is manageable and inclusive, the meetings will be organised by electoral constituency.

“The goal is to provide a structured way for citizens to come forward,” President Muizzu explained. “Even if we meet with 10 to 15 families from each of the 93 constituencies, it will allow a significant number of people the opportunity to voice their concerns directly to me.”

He estimated that working through all 93 constituencies would be a long-term undertaking, but emphasised that it remains a priority. The President also reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining a presence in the islands, stating that during his future travels to the atolls, he will dedicate more time to meeting the general public, rather than limiting his interactions to council officials and institutional representatives.

During the discussion, the President directly addressed the high volume of public feedback concerning the “Housing for All” programme. Acknowledging that housing remains the most pressing issue for most citizens, he noted that many of the cases brought to his attention involved delays or unresolved grievances related to past projects.

He categorically rejected claims by the opposition that his administration has been unresponsive to these concerns. “I do not believe there is a single request or grievance that has reached me or my office that hasn’t been investigated or addressed,” the President asserted. He added that a dedicated team is currently tasked with verifying applications and ensuring that individual issues-such as documentation errors or bureaucratic delays-are resolved.

The announcement follows a broader administration push to counter what it describes as “false narratives” spread by the opposition regarding government inaction. President Muizzu stressed that his administration’s goal is to foster a transparent and responsive government that actively listens to the people.

“We are committed to a government that is transparent and truly hears the voices of its citizens,” he said. “This programme is a tangible step toward that commitment.”
