President Muizzu Mourns Passing of Long‑Serving Former Deputy Police Commissioner Abdul Shakoor Abdulla

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retd) Abdul Shakoor Abdullah, a veteran officer who served both the Maldives National Defence Force and Maldives Police Service for more than four decades.

In a message posted on X, the President described Shakoor as an experienced and steadfast son of the soil who dedicated his life to national service. He highlighted Shakoor’s role in defending the country during the 3 November attack and his later work in strengthening prison systems and tackling the spread of drugs.

The President noted that Shakoor played “a leading role in improving the conditions and arrangements of Maldivian prisons and saving the country from the drug epidemic,” adding that he consistently placed the nation’s interests above all else.

President Muizzu extended condolences to Shakoor’s family, as well as to the Maldives National Defence Force and Maldives Police Service, calling this a moment of collective grief for the security services. He also prayed for Allah to grant Shakoor eternal peace in Paradise.

Shakoor’s passing marks the loss of a figure widely regarded for his discipline, commitment and long‑standing contribution to national security. He was also known as the official chronologer and historian of the Maldives Police Service.
