Kuala Lumpur, – During his official visit to Malaysia, President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu addressed Maldivian students studying abroad, urging them to remain steadfast in their commitment to Islamic principles and core Maldivian values. Speaking at a gathering with the Maldivian community in Malaysia, President Muizzu emphasized the importance of preserving cultural and religious identity while pursuing academic success.

In his address, President Muizzu called on students to adhere to the tenets of Islam, warning that straying from these values could lead to a loss of true happiness. “It is easy for Maldivian youth to abandon our values,” he noted, encouraging students to hold fast to their heritage. He also stressed the pursuit of academic excellence, stating that their achievements reflect not only on themselves but also on their families and the Maldivian nation.

President Muizzu further encouraged Maldivian families in Malaysia to foster a strong sense of community despite being far from home. He underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring equal treatment for all Maldivians, regardless of where they reside. To support this, President Muizzu inaugurated ID card and e-Passport services and officially launched the Maldivian Students Association-Malaysia. Additionally, he announced that, starting next year, the government will provide US$3,000 in Malaysian ringgit to the Students Association to enhance services for students, with plans to further expand consular services.

The meeting, attended by former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan, his spouse Madam Ilham Hussain members of the Maldivian delegation, and numerous Maldivian families and students, highlighted the strong ties between Maldives and Malaysia. President Muizzu expressed gratitude to the community for their warm reception, noting Malaysia hosts the largest number of Maldivians, particularly students.

Reflecting on his official engagements, President Muizzu highlighted the strengthening of bilateral relations through discussions with the Malaysian Prime Minister and a business forum aimed at boosting trade and investment. He assured the community that their concerns, including consular services and other needs, would remain a priority, with ongoing improvements planned through the Maldivian High Commission.

“I am deeply grateful for this opportunity to connect with our brothers and sisters here,” President Muizzu said, reaffirming his commitment to addressing the community’s needs and fostering unity among Maldivians abroad.
