The Government has reconstituted the Special Committee of Ministers formed to monitor the impact of the Middle East crisis on the Maldives, following changes made to the Cabinet this week.

The committee was first established on 28 February 2026, on the day the United States launched its initial strikes against Iran. From its first meeting, the committee began issuing weekly briefings every Sunday at the President’s Office, providing updates on logistics, supply chains and the wider economic implications for the Maldives.

Over the past month, ministers have detailed the status of tourist arrivals, cancellations, new route development and efforts to increase seat capacity to the Maldives. The committee has also provided regular updates on fuel reserves, shipment schedules and the availability of essential commodities.

Officials have repeatedly noted that, due to early and coordinated action by the President and his Cabinet, the Maldives has avoided shortages and maintained market stability despite the prolonged regional unrest.

The committee was reconstituted at the Cabinet meeting held on 15 April. With the changes, the members are:

  1. Moosa Zameer, Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises (Chair)
  2. Irtisham Adam, Minister of Foreign Affairs
  3. Mohammed Saeed, Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade
  4. Ahmed Shiyam, Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources
  5. Mohammed Ameen, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation

The President’s Office said the committee will continue to monitor developments in the Middle East and assess any potential implications for the Maldives, ensuring that supply chains, tourism flows and essential services remain uninterrupted.
