Jamiyyath Salaf is kicking off its national civil society symposium in Malé tonight, bringing together dozens of local organizations to build closer ties and sharpen community work across the country.

The two-day gathering, branded as the “BML Islamic Civil Society Symposium 2026,” is hosting 40 non-governmental organizations at the National Museum Auditorium in the capital on August 13 and 14.

Organizers confirmed that groups from every single atoll have signed up, ranging from island-based associations and women’s development groups to sports clubs and specialized NGOs.

Running under the theme “Together for a Compassionate Community,” the schedule packs in practical sessions on leadership, marketing, IT tools, AI integration, and Shariah-compliant operations.

Speaking on the drive behind the event, Jamiyyath Salaf President Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohamed Ibrahim said the main focus is helping local civil society groups run smoother operations and pick up useful skills from each other.

“It is about strengthening institutional operations and learning from each other’s experience, skill, and technical capacity,” Sheikh Abdullah said, adding that the sessions aim to help NGOs make the absolute most of their resources.

This marks the second edition of the national symposium. The inaugural event was held in AA. Mathiveri in February 2024, where 19 participating NGOs signed an agreement that sparked a series of joint community projects over the last two years.

BML Islamic is on board as title sponsor for this year’s symposium, with STO People’s Choice as main sponsor and Dhaaris TV serving as official media partner.
