A dedicated community mental health facility, designed to intervene before psychological distress escalates into acute illness, has officially opened in Kulhudhuffushi City, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

The facility, named the ‘Manas Hub’, was inaugurated during a ceremony organised by the Kulhudhuffushi City Council to coincide with World Mental Health Day. Kulhudhuffushi City Mayor Mohamed Athif and Australian High Commissioner to the Maldives, David Jessup, jointly led the official opening, alongside former First Lady Fazna Ahmed.

Unlike standard clinical environments and traditional hospital wards, the center offers a safe, accessible community space aimed at early intervention and prevention. City council officials highlighted that the Hub’s framework shifts the paradigm of mental healthcare away from crisis management towards proactive, long-term emotional well-being.

Key services delivered through the Hub include:

  • Psychoeducation and Skills Training: Programmes focused on stress management, emotional resilience, and practical coping mechanisms for navigating psychological challenges.

  • Career Guidance and Personal Development: Structured workshops to assist individuals in career planning and setting future path goals.

  • Community Integration: Social and recreational activities, including board games, designed to promote community cohesion and counter social isolation.

The center operates with an open-access approach, ensuring residents can seek assistance easily, whilst maintaining referral pathways to specialized technical care for individuals requiring complex clinical support.
