When most political campaigns in Malé rely on rallies, door‑to‑door visits or evening gatherings, PNC candidate Al‑Ustaza Aishath Alaika Adnan has chosen something different.

At 10:30pm on Monday, 9 March, at the Bisbur area, Alaika officially launched her campaign quiz titled “Do You Know Alaika?” The programme is designed to introduce her to voters ahead of the Malé City Council and Women’s Development Committee elections, and to share her vision with as many families as possible.

The quiz will run from 10 March to 29 March 2026, with one question about Alaika posted each day. Participants can submit their answers through www.alaika.mv before midnight. A daily draw will be held among those who answer correctly, and the winner will receive a prize announced on the website the following day.

A special grand prize has also been announced. One participant, selected from all those who submit correct answers throughout the quiz period, will win an Umrah trip. The media partner for the quiz is MMTV, and prizes are sponsored by VAV Pvt Ltd.

Alaika’s team says the quiz format is meant to be both playful and informative, giving residents a chance to learn about her background, her work and her ideas for strengthening women’s participation in civic life. It is an unconventional approach, but supporters say that is precisely why it works.

In recent years, the PNC has placed emphasis on expanding opportunities for women within public institutions and community leadership. Alaika’s candidacy is viewed by supporters as part of that wider effort. Her grounding in community work and legal scholarship has shaped her approach to women’s development, blending tradition, social responsibility and modern governance.

Her campaign team describes her as a “new voice” for the WDC, someone who brings a mix of community engagement and a contemporary understanding of the challenges facing women in the capital. Tonight’s event, they say, is meant to move beyond speeches and slogans, offering a more relaxed and open way for the public to interact with her.

The choice of venue — Maafannu Bisbur — carries its own symbolism. Rather than a hall or a closed space, the launch took place in a public square where people gather informally. It reflects a shift towards more accessible, street‑level political engagement, a style that has become more visible during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration, which has emphasised community‑centred development and the importance of local leadership.

For Alaika, the launch marks a small but meaningful moment: a chance to introduce herself not just as a candidate, but as part of a generation of women stepping forward in a political environment that is gradually opening its doors wider. Supporters say this expansion of opportunity has been strengthened under the PNC’s leadership.

As the quiz begins, her team hopes the format will help families across Malé learn more about her — one question at a time.
