Malé, Maldives — The Majlis Finance Committee has received information on 13 employees of state-owned utility company FENAKA who were allegedly involved in the corruption scandal uncovered in the company’s projects and procurement divisions.
According to officials, the sub-committee investigating the irregularities flagged in the Auditor General’s special report on FENAKA shared the names and details of the implicated employees with the main Finance Committee earlier today.
Committee Chair Ahmed Nazim said the list sent by FENAKA includes 13 employees, among them staff from the company’s project department and the head of procurement.
Nazim noted that between 2021 and 2024, FENAKA dismissed 66 employees in connection with the corruption case. However, he acknowledged that some individuals linked to the scandal remain employed within the company in other capacities.
The investigation follows revelations of widespread procurement and billing fraud within the company, which managed millions in infrastructure projects across the islands. The Finance Committee is expected to summon company officials and relevant state institutions as the probe continues.
