Maldives Immigration today marked its 76th anniversary, highlighting the institution’s evolution from its establishment in 1950 to a modern, technology‑driven agency central to the country’s border security and tourism economy.
The anniversary was celebrated under the theme “Celebrating 76 years of service. Advancing through digital transformation!”. In a short video shared on X, the agency used traditional imagery of glowing traditional dhoni transforming into the number 76 and the Immigration emblem, symbolising the blend of heritage and modernisation that has shaped its development.
The milestone comes as the Maldives continues to record strong tourism growth. In 2025, the country welcomed 2.25 million visitors, a 9.8 percent increase from the previous year and more than 16 percent higher than 2023. December 2025 set a new monthly record with over 224,000 arrivals.
Immigration officials said the agency’s digital reforms have played a key role in supporting this growth. A major step was the launch of the e‑Visa system in November 2025, allowing travellers to apply for and receive visas online without queues or physical submissions. Visa status and related information can now be accessed through the Maldives Immigration mobile app, which includes secure QR verification.
These upgrades have streamlined border procedures, strengthened security and improved the arrival experience for millions of visitors. Officials noted that the reforms align with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s “Maldives 2.0” vision for a digitally empowered state.
In a message marking the anniversary, Maldives Immigration said it remained committed to honouring its legacy while advancing national progress. The agency paid tribute to its officers for their service in safeguarding the country’s borders and facilitating smooth travel.
As the Maldives continues to modernise its public services, the 76th anniversary stands as a reminder of the institution’s role in shaping secure and efficient mobility for residents and visitors alike.
