Maldives Gas has received a new shipment of cooking gas in the Maldives, with the State Trading Organization assuring that 10‑kilogram cylinders will now be available without difficulty. STO said the temporary shortages caused by international supply disruptions have been resolved and services have returned to normal.
A spokesperson for the company said the latest shipment has stabilised stocks, allowing Maldives Gas to supply 10‑kilogram bottles without interruption. The company noted that it now holds sufficient reserves and expects supply to continue smoothly.
Shipments were delayed over the past two months, creating major challenges in delivering gas to Malé and the atolls. Public complaints rose sharply as many households reported waiting hours for deliveries. With the arrival of the new shipment, Maldives Gas has resumed regular delivery services.
The shortages were linked to shocks in the global oil and gas market, including delays caused by disruptions to international supply routes amid rising tensions in the Middle East. To prevent stocks from running out, Maldives Gas introduced temporary measures, including filling only five kilograms into 10‑kilogram cylinders and suspending supply to new customers. The company said these steps were taken to ensure fair distribution.
STO reiterated that ensuring uninterrupted access to essential services remains its top priority.
