The Maldivian government has urged all parties in the Middle East to step back from further confrontation following the US–Israel attack on Iranian territory, expressing what it described as “profound concern” over the rapid escalation of hostilities.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Maldives “denounces attacks from all sides” and called for an immediate halt to military action. The government appealed for a return to diplomacy and insisted that any response to the crisis must be grounded in international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.

“The sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be fully respected by all parties at all times,” the statement read, underscoring a position the Maldives has consistently taken in previous regional crises.

The Government of Maldives emphasised that the appeal reflects the country’s longstanding commitment to resolving disputes through peaceful and principled means. The government emphasised that collective action — rather than unilateral force — is essential to stabilising a region already strained by years of conflict and geopolitical rivalry.

The Maldives, one of the smallest nations to speak out on the crisis, has increasingly positioned itself as a principled advocate for international norms, often aligning its diplomacy with calls for de‑escalation and humanitarian protection. Its latest intervention reflects both concern over the potential for wider regional fallout and a desire to reinforce the value of multilateralism at a moment of heightened global tension.

The statement concluded with a renewed call for “regional and global peace and stability”, urging all actors to prioritise dialogue over confrontation.
