Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has publicly thanked President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu after the Maldivian leader extended greetings on India’s 80th Independence Day, expressing hope that ties between the two neighbors will grow even stronger in the coming years.
Responding to President Muizzu’s post on X, PM Modi appreciated the well-wishes and reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.
Earlier in the day, President Muizzu extended warm greetings to Indian President Droupadi Murmu, PM Modi, and the people of India. In separate official letters, Muizzu praised India’s democratic strength alongside its social and economic progress over the past eight decades. He also highlighted New Delhi’s vital role in maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity across the Indian Ocean region.
Expressing gratitude for India’s ongoing assistance toward Maldivian development, President Muizzu reaffirmed Male’s commitment to expanding strategic cooperation across multiple sectors based on mutual respect and shared prosperity.
Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef also joined in extending greetings, describing the relationship between the Maldives and India as a deep, resilient friendship built on long-standing historical ties.
The exchange follows recent high-level engagements between both capitals—including official state visits by both leaders—which saw the signing of several key economic and security agreements to bolster bilateral cooperation. India celebrates its Independence Day annually on August 15, marking the end of British colonial rule in 1947.
