MALE’ — All land transport services in the Maldives will be fully digitalised by the end of August, Economic Development and Trade Minister Mohamed Saeed told Majlis as the government works to consolidate transport-related services under the national OneGov platform.

Responding to questions from MPs about transport services, Saeed said applications for transport services are already available online around the clock, but that work is ongoing to upgrade the system. The plan is to migrate all land transport services to a more advanced platform through OneGov, replacing the current system with one that is more modern and user-friendly.

“Our target, working with OneGov, is to digitalise all land transport services before the end of August, God willing. That work is progressing. The specific details, for example whether it will be through eFaas or another method, we have an overall vision for how this will work,” the minister said.

He said once the transport services are available through OneGov, the difficulties residents currently face will be permanently resolved.

On sea transport, Saeed said the government is on track to connect all inhabited islands to the high-speed RTL ferry network by January next year, as announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The service currently operates across 15 atolls using 35 high-speed vessels. Five atolls are not yet covered and will be brought into the network before the January deadline.
