Male’, Maldives — President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expanded the special presidential commission investigating the suspicious fall of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, a 21-year-old from a ninth-floor apartment on April 18, according to a decree issued Monday. The move follows six consecutive nights of Gen Z-led protests demanding transparency.

The commission, chaired by former Attorney General Dr. Mohammed Munawwar, now includes two female members, Jabeen Mohamed of Th. Veymandoo and Aminath Eenaas of H. Habaruge, to broaden representation. Dr. Mohamed Habeeb, an orthopedic specialist initially appointed, was removed after disclosing a familial connection to Raud’s  mother. Dr. Moosa Murad, another medical doctor, has been appointed in his place, joining former Vice Chief of Defense Force Ahmed Mohamed.

The commission retains sweeping powers to summon witnesses, compel evidence, and seek foreign expertise. The investigation, mandated under Article 115(c) of the Constitution, aims to deliver an independent report as public pressure mounts.
